There are two types of home safety assessments: a general assessment of home safety and a safety assessment for individuals with limited abilities and mobility, for example, for persons with impaired vision, individuals who have dementia, or for those who use a wheelchair.

A general home safety assessment is usually done by insurance agents or security consultants and involves the following evaluation of:

  • Stair handrails security
  • Smoke alarms
  • Door locks
  • Lighting

Safety and accessibility assessments are normally conducted by licensed occupational therapists and involve reviews of your home for possible fall risks. Safety and accessibility assessments aim to ensure your home is accessible and convenient.
