Becoming a Devoted Guardian...

Where do I start?
  1. Apply for ALTCS to determine eligibility.
  2. Select a caregiver (or let us help you find one).
  3. Complete training and onboarding through Devoted Guardians.
  4. Start receiving in-home care services.

The Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS) is a Medicaid program that provides health insurance and long-term care services for individuals who require a nursing home level of care but prefer to receive services at home or in a community-based setting. ALTCS covers home care services, assisted living, and medical care for qualifying individuals.

Learn more: ALTCS Program

Eligibility for ALTCS is based on three main criteria:

  1. Medical need: The individual must require a nursing-home level of care.
  2. Financial eligibility: Income and assets must meet the limits set by ALTCS.
  3. Residency: The applicant must be an Arizona resident and a U.S. citizen or legal resident.

family caregiver can be a spouse, adult child, sibling, in-law, grandparent, or other close relative of the person receiving care. Friends and neighbors can also become caregivers if chosen by the individual in need.

Family caregivers provide non-medical, in-home support such as:

  • Assistance with daily activities (bathing, dressing, eating)
  • Household tasks (laundry, meal prep, light housekeeping)
  • Mobility assistance and transfers
  • Companionship and emotional support
  • Medication reminders (non-administration)

If you prefer not to be the caregiver yourself, you can choose someone else, such as a trusted friend, neighbor, or relative, who will be hired and trained through the program.

Yes! Your parent, child, sibling, grandparent, in-law, or even a close neighbor can be a caregiver if they meet the requirements.

Once ALTCS approves your case and you choose Devoted Guardians- we can have the caregiver complete training and onboarding then payments typically begin within a day.

(Respite care is available time for the caregiver to take a much-needed break while ensuring their loved one is still cared for by one of our trained agency caregivers)

Yes! Respite care can be provided by a trusted family member or an agency caregiver, depending on your preference and eligibility.
To use your respite hours, contact your ALTCS Case Manager and request the hours you’d like to use. After confirming with your case manager, reach out to our office to schedule care.

Caring for a loved one can be rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming. Respite care ensures that caregivers have time to rest and recharge, preventing burnout while maintaining quality care for their loved ones.
